Indiana Driver Safety Program (DSP) Course

Yes. DriveSafeToday is an Indiana BMV-approved DSP provider, meaning your completion counts toward Indiana’s Driver Safety Program requirements. When you complete the course, we electronically report your completion to the Indiana BMV and you can also download your certificate for your records.

Indiana DSP is a minimum 4-hour course requirement. Our course is built to meet that minimum while still allowing you to move through the material at your own pace. You can read, take breaks, and come back later your progress is saved automatically and the course resumes where you left off. This approach makes it flexible without cutting corners on the required course length.

Right after you complete the course, you’ll be able to download your certificate of completion for free. We also notify the Indiana BMV electronically. Practical tip: even with electronic reporting, it can take some time for records to update on the BMV side. If you have a deadline coming up (for example, from a notice), it’s smart to finish early and keep your downloadable certificate for your records.

Many drivers use their certificate of completion as proof for a court, probation office, or clerk, depending on what they were instructed to provide. Requirements vary by court, so always follow your specific order. The good news: you’ll receive a downloadable certificate immediately after completion, which you can print or save and provide as needed.

Yes. The Indiana DSP course is 100% online and works across devices, so you can start on a laptop and continue on a phone or tablet. Your progress is saved as you go, and when you return you’ll resume from the last section you completed, rather than starting over.

The course is designed to be both compliant and practical. You’ll cover real-world defensive driving skills and safety topics such as hazard awareness, safe speed and following distance, intersection/right-of-way decisions, work zones and school zones, sharing the road with vulnerable users, distraction prevention, drugs and alcohol, Indiana traffic rules and common violations, basic vehicle safety/maintenance, and special driving conditions (night driving, bad weather, construction, heavy traffic). The goal is not just completion, it’s helping you drive more safely and reduce risk going forward.

At the end of the course, you’ll take a final exam and need 80% to pass. If you don’t pass the first time, you have unlimited retakes, so you can review the material and try again until you pass. This is especially helpful if you’re nervous about tests or want to finish confidently without worrying about extra fees or “lockouts.”

There’s no extra charge for audio. You can complete the course using: Text-based lessons (ideal if you prefer reading), and/or Audio read-along (great if you learn better by listening). Many drivers use both, listening while reading, to stay focused and finish more comfortably.

You do not have to complete it in one sitting. The course is built for real schedules. Start when you have time, take breaks, and come back later. Your course always picks up where you left off, so you can complete it in multiple sessions without losing your place.
